Great news !

Excited and relieved about the amazing news !

I thought to share the  good news :

I was diagnosed over 5 years ago with sarcoidosis in my lungs. It's an auto-immune disease which affects different part of the body but in my case mainly my lungs (limited breathing due to sarcoid nodules in lungs and inflammation in my joints ). Following recent CT scan, lung function and walking test: it shows that the inflammation in my lungs is nearly resolved. Still few scaring. But even better than last year !

All this through : anti-inflammation nutrition + supplementation + training.

A big thank you to Jack Galloway ;)

Proof that it CAN be done without steroid treatment !

Sarcoidosis an illness so misunderstood: Sometimes I forget ...

Sarcoidosis an illness so misunderstood: Sometimes I forget ...: Sometimes I forget that I have sarcoidosis and that although I am managing my condition , that damage done to my lunges by the sarcoidosi...

Sometimes I forget ...

Sometimes I forget that I have sarcoidosis and that although I am managing my condition , that damage done to my lunges by the sarcoidosis nodules are permanent and non reversible .

So, although my fitness level improves I will always limited in my breathing.
This is very frustrating situation.

I forget very often that I have this physical disability and compare my fitness abilities to others.
Of course it's a good thing as well because in these moments of "high" I "forget" my physical limitations. I am all well too reminded when I get a stabbing sensation in my upper back (lungs) or a pain in my chest : I know then I have pushed myself too far ...

Finding the balance is what I am aiming for : push myself just enough but not too the limits.

When trying to achieve balance, from my personal and professional experience, you should target and focus on the following areas in your life:

  • Nutrition > what you feed you body can feed or starve sarcoidosis  . Don't hesitate to get in touch for a 1:1 skype consult
  • Supplementation complements anti-inflammation eating plan
  • Exercise > brings fresh oxygen to the body / cells and boost feel-good hormones
  • Lifestyle stress > a BIG one !!!!! focus on the positive as much as possible and stay away from unnecessary stressful situations + add some feel good everyday holistic experiences such as massage, movement to music, meeting up with friends...

update

Some mornings I wake up and just think to myself: is it normal to feel so much pain when waking up ? Pain in my joints and my muscles aching all over. I don't even feel rested from the night just gone... This is despite my antiinflammation diet and vitamin and mineral supplementation !!!!

Surely this is not meant to be the feeling when waking up in the morning ???!!! How can this be a good start ? Well ...most morning start like this for me...and I am only in my thirties  ..pretty scary...I doubt anyone understand truly the pain I am suffering on a daily basis even my other half > my husband who still does not comprehend fully the nature and lifestyle side effects of sarcoidosis ....

The specialists don't even cover this aspect either !!!!! although i can't blame my specialist as she is a respiratology specialist and not a sarcoidosis specialist ! she has been focusing on my BMI on my last visit - rather than how I had been feeling since we had last met 6 months ago...ignoring completely the fact that i teach dance fitness classes 4 times a week + 2 extra training = exercising a minimum of 6 times a week and therefore have a muscle mass more than average sedentary person ...but this is again another subject ....

Coming back to Sarcoidosis...what we have to remind ourselves and tell every sarcoidosis sufferer is that :

  • Sugar is a killer
  • Sugar is the enemy of inflammation
  • Sugar is my sweet / bitter poison !!!!

I must get it out of my system to starve the inflammation !

Let me focus on this this week and see how my sarc symptoms progress ...

Much love

a very difficult week ...

I have been having a very difficult week dealing and coping with the symptoms of my sarcodosis this week !
After a very stressful week last week, my body is finding it very difficult to find back physical balance....
Waking up after a full night sleep ...felling exhausted as if I had been run over by a truck ....not one morning but most of these mornings this week ...

I have therefore tried to limit my physical activity to the minimum not to overstress my body even more
I have increased my antioxidant supplements :  from one shot a day to 2 one in the morning and in the afternoon to even three when I was feeling over exhausted
I have also increased my vitamins and supplements to help my body cope and recover from the stress.

The over tiredness has created a frustration sensation of not physically being able to perform what I had planned to achieve on the day. This has itself has created an comfort eating compensation reaction >>> this need to be altered to avoid long term damage !

When exhausted >>> stop and rest seems an obvious thing to do ....but sometimes it is difficult trying not going against it.

Dealing and Living with sarcoidosis in my personal experience is all about BALANCE : finding the right balance of exercise not to over exhaust the body and eating the right foods and adding supplements. It's all about listening to one's body: when the body says it's exhausted we have to learn to listen and not override it ...

A new perception ...

Yes... I am still struggling to accept the fact that my body is letting me down sometimes and in the last month ...I had found it a bit more of a struggle living everyday life without feeling completely drained out in the middle of the afternoons...

Further to my latest specialist appt, I had decided to go ahead with taking the first step for Sarcoidosis treatment  with some powerful drugs prescribed by my respiratory specialist. I had resisted till now but I was really finding hard and I was becoming desperate for some help !

But somehow things just happened...as if things were meant to be different...

As I started the drug treatment I had a sever allergic reaction as if my body was refusing it !  Furthermore after a 10 days break where I made some radical lifestyle changes I came back energised, refreshed and with a clear mind : no I did not want to take any drugs !

10 days break

  • Some daily outdoors morning exercise for a minimum of 30 min
  • Some fresh mediterranean home made cooking: fresh fruits, vegetable
  • inflammation fighting supplements and vitamins
  • unconditional Love from my little nieces and nephew
  • The weather was glorious too and definitely lifted my moods

Furthermore ,as if it was meant to happen, before my break I met this amazingly strong woman named Rashmi. She recommended a book : "Dying to be me" by Anita Moorjani
This book made me perceive things in a completely different way...
It talks a lot about inner guidance, about being centered, being aware. Meditation is a great way to help center oneself !

Center yourself on what gives your life joy !

So my friends, because Life is so precious. Grab every moment of joy, happiness and share it with your loved ones. You never know when it might be too late...live your life NOW !

getting over the shock...

I was quite shocked to hear that I am at stage 4 of my chronic illness.
You'll probably ask yourself -as i did - stage four out of what ? ...out of 4 ! yep ! my consultant did not even explain this to me....this is because I asked...

I did a bit of research and this is what I found:

4 Stages of Sarcoidosis

When diagnosed, one is usually told which of the 4 stages of sarcoidosis that you have. Sarcoidosis is divided into 4 stages of progression from least to most severe.

The above photos show stage I, III and IV.  You can see how the progression of the infiltration has grown from the first to the third photo.

Stage I and II Sarcoidosis

Stage I Sarcoidosis is photographed in the above left photo. It is characterized by “BHL” which stands for Bilatera Hilar Adenopathy, which means enlargement or depression of a lymph gland  (both sides) where vessels and nerves enter.  Stage II also has some other organ involvement, while stage I does not. Between 55-90% of Stage I patients go into remission and between 40-70% of stage II patients do. These stages are the earlier stages and often people are not even diagnosed at this stage, since the symptoms are relatively subtle.

Stage III Sarcoidosis

Stage III Sarcoidosis accounts for about 15% of sarcoid patients. The center photo is of a stage III patient lungs. It is characterized by much organ involvement, greater amounts of granulomas in the lungs but no lymph gland size changes. Between 10-20% of the patients at this stage go into remission

Stage IV Sarcoidosis

The photo at the right is of stage IV Sarcoidosis. This is where there are signs of fibrosis.  This means there is scar tissue forming in the sacs inside the lining of the lungs and there is other organ involvement.  5-10% of patients have this stage of sarcoidosis, and the remission rate is 0-5%.

So here I have it the shock of knowing that it is that bad! not only that but that the remission rate is only 0-5% !

Now I need to get over this !!!! and continue with my positivity and my mission in life : to inspire and help people live happier, healthier and better ...through healthy eating, exercise and positivity !

So my friends, because Life is so precious. Grab every moment of joy, happiness and share it with your loved ones. You never know when it might be too late...live your life NOW !
